The team at Hourigan had multiple projects at the James Center, a 1M-square-foot premium Class A commercial space in downtown Richmond. Hourigan searched for a temporary containment wall system to both seamlessly blend into the surroundings and mask all renovations, including an open lobby space that extended through several floors.

Medtronic Clean Room

DUST AND DEBRIS CONTAINMENT

Working adjacent to a cleanroom at Medtronic posed a serious of challenges for J. Calnan & Associates crews. Containing dust and debris just to the renovation area, and clear of the cleanroom, was essential. The project also required ceiling mounted HEPA filters and multiple cord drop panels.

SUPERIOR SOUND ATTENUATION

This project was a three-phased, fast track office build out, in an occupied office area. Renovation crews needed temporary containment walls that not only kept dust and debris away from the occupied area but would eliminate all construction noise. Plastic sheeting would not provide the sound attenuation needed for this occupied space.

FLEXIBLE, SCALABLE SUITE CONTAINMENT

The standard practice for building suites within a data center is a wire cage system, which requires a significant amount of labor to install and doesn’t look great. Oxford Networks, now FirstLight, wanted a durable and innovative solution that allowed for more flexibility to meet their clients’ evolving needs.

The space had many challenges for the renovation team. The renovation work was happening in the lobby. The temporary walls would be viewed by all students and staff who entered through school. And, the renovations required building an L-shaped wall with a door for easy access for the construction crew.
